Summary of the 96th season
On July 28, the Janka Kupała National Theatre closed out its 96th season with Paŭlinka. We are grateful to those who shared this time with us. Let's remember the milestones of the season.


On September 15th, the theatre celebrated its 95th anniversary with the festive concert. It was a beautiful, almost a family event full of memories about our best productions and prominent colleagues. The photo was taken by the newspaper Culture.



On account of the anniversary, a postage stamp with the Janka Kupała National Theatre, the next of the series Belarus Theatres, was issued by Belpochta, a pleasant present to the company and all members of the staff.



Premieres

On December 1st, Mikałaj Pinihin staged the famous comedy ART by prominent French playwright Jasmine Reza. The story of three men's friendship which was called into question when one of them bought an expensive painting, was staged in a lot of theatres all over the world.



On April 26th, Mikałaj Pinihin staged Two Souls, after the same-titled Maksim Harecky novel. It is the first stage adaptation of the classic novel about the crucial turns of Belarusian history, self-determination of nation and quest for its place in the ruthless world.



The Chamber stage was also opened in the middle of the 96th season. Three productions of young directors, Belarusian State Academic of Arts graduates tutored by Mikałaj Pinihin, have been staged since that time.

The first one was Antigone by Jean Anouilh, directed by Mikałaj Kapulcevič. The modern interpretation of the classic play by Sophocles was first staged in Paris in 1943, under the Nazi occupation, but is still actual. Photo by the newspaper Culture.



On December 29, Šabany, directed by Alena Hanum after the same-titled novel by Alhierd Bacharevič, was premiered on the Chamber stage, the enigmatic, romantic story about the unlikely heart of the capital, its inhabitants, their life stories, and views.



The third premiere was Love As Militarism after the play by Russian playwright Petr Gladilin. The story of human relationships which turned into the hostile warfare was directed by Dzmitryj Ciško.



On October 12 and 13, the Janka Kupała National Theatre hosted Beijing People's Art Theatre in the context of the Days of Culture of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Belarus. Our Chinese colleagues presented he play Our Jing Ke, based on the story of a legendary assassin Jing Ke, whose name has been known to any Chinese since the days of Ancient China.



Tours and festivals

In September 2015, the Janka Kupała National Academic Theatre closed XX Bielaja Vieža International Theatre Festival in Brest. Our theatre participated a lot of times in it and was awarded numerous prizes.



In November 2015, The Sea-gull was performed in Moscow at the Russian Academic Youth Theatre in the context of the agreement signed by the Ministeres of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.



On June 16th, ART was performed in Paris, at Les Feux-de-la-Rampe in the context of The First Belarusian Theatre Seasons in France.


Simultaneous translation

English simultaneous translation was launched last season. This season we improved the service; now English translation is available at most of the productions, as well as Russian translation. You can check the language of each scheduled performance at the Playbill.
